What happens when you mix Queensland & Uber? ScUber happens

Words by Travel to change the world

In case you hadn’t heard it yet, Queensland & Uber just partnered to create a world first, rideshare submarine on the Great Barrier Reef. It’s called ScUber.

It’s no secret that Queensland is packed full of natural wonders, it’s why they’ve built such a thriving tourism industry. But this might just about be the coolest tourism initiative we’ve seen Queensland release to date.

A few days ago Queensland announced their partnership with Uber and the launch of their joint venture, ScUber. What exactly is it though? It’s an underwater submarine experience offering riders an unfiltered lens into one of the worlds most iconic and fragile ecosystems, the Great Barrier Reef, without the need for a snorkel or dive license.

The Great Barrier Reef is the worlds largest & longest coral reef system in the entire world. It’s home to one-third of the worlds coral species and 1625 species of marine life. It’s a marine-rich playground with over 1000 islands that spans more than 69 million football fields in size.

With so much to explore, what better way could you experience natures remarkable wonderland than by mode of a ScUber submarine? Yeah, we couldn’t think of a better option either.

What will you experience?

Starting today and ending on the 18th of June, you can enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime Uber experience in an underwater submarine that will take you on an exclusive tour of our precious Great Barrier Reef, and yes, you can book it directly from your Uber App.

For a modest $1500 per person, and a minimum of two people per ride, you’ll experience the royal treatment. The $1500 covers your pickup from location, a helicopter ride, a 1-hour ScUber submarine ride, and a return trip back to your location.

To celebrate the launch of ScUber, Queensland & Uber are giving away this unforgettable bucket-list experience to one lucky winner (and their friend) from each of the following countries: USA, Canada, United Kingdom, France, New Zealand & Australia.

To enter the competition, head to https://scuberqueensland.com/ and explain in 25 words or less why should experience the wonder of the Great Barrier Reef with ScUber.

What will the positive impact be?

The launch of ScUber signifies Ubers most recent partnership with Citizens of The Great Barrier Reef, an organisation dedicated to educating and engaging the world in the conservation and protection of the Great Barrier Reef and reefs all over the world, using tech, data, and a collaborative approach to conservation.

“Uber is committed to harnessing the power of technology for good. We are proud to partner with Queensland to help showcase the Reef to the world with the launch of scUber.”

Susan Anderson, Regional General Manager of Uber, Australia and New Zealand

ScUbers launch will support the ongoing protection and conservation of the reef through a financial and resource investment program.

In particular, it will focus on supporting the Reefs Track Program and the Great Reef census in conjunction with the incredible Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef project.
